Typically from Spain, the Marcona Almond is grown in provinces that border the Mediterranean, from Murcia to Catalonia. However, Marcona Almonds most popular are those that are harvested in the mountains of Alicante.
Dubbed the jewel of almonds, it has a very subtle taste, and has the distinction of not being too fat.
This variety of almond is highly valued for its sweet taste, crunchy texture and rich in incomparable fats. The Marcona Almond is a fruit shorter and rounder than the other varieties of almonds, it is highly regarded by the gastronomic world which ranks it among the finest ingredients, and uses it often whole in both salty and sweet dishes.
We recognize the almond, a high oil content, protein, carbohydrates but also vitamins. It is mineralizing, with significant levels of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, manganese, copper and zinc. It is rich in vitamin E, strongly antioxidant, and is a source of vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B9.
A bit of history
The almond tree was synonymous of prosperity for the young men who agreed to eat this fruit.
The Greeks were the first to feel the culture. Therefore, the Romans called it then, Greek nut and have done so much for food as medicine, but more because it was quickly granted to the kernel and in particular symbolic significance of the virtues of fertility. The kernels then became a Roman traditional offering made to the newlyweds.
Subsequently, and the Middle Ages until today (through dragees), the kernel remains the ally inevitable grooms ceremonies.
